The National Portrait Gallery is letting visitors experience a multi-sensory environment this Friday as part of its Late Shift programme of late night openings. The event on 5th August called ReAnimate is curated by Martyn Ware of Illustrious, a 3D spatialised sound production company, and Karen Pearson of Folded Wing, an award-winning radio and audio production company. The museum will become an interactive space where visitors can stimulate all five senses through a varied line up of performances and activities, including sonic landscape compositions, DJ sets, exhibitions, films, drawing sessions and panel discussions, all designed to push the boundaries of sensory exploration. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear UK bass music producer and Red Bull Music Academy alumnus Illum Sphere’s soundscape composition in response to the themes ‘Art, Invention and Thought’. They will also be able to watch live performances from experimental soul singer-songwriter Andreya Triana, DJ and producer Ben Westbeech and British composer and classical musician Marvin Ayres.   Also during the evening there will be cocktails, specially created perfumes, portraits, film screenings and a ‘Philosophy Salon’ on Sound Thinking and Bodies. This after-hours event is a great opportunity to explore innovation in the worlds of art, culture and technology, and creative responses to music and sound.
