An exhibition showcasing a selection of works to come out of the Tohoko region of Japan since it was struck by natural disaster will be on show at London's Asia House from July 11th - 15th.

That conditions of adversity breed creativity is no secret but in the case of Tohuku, the area of Japan devastated by 2011's earthquake and tsunami, decimation prompted designers and artists to re-think the essence of their work. Tohuku is renowned for being a hub of design excellence but new design principles have since emerged from the area that take into account issues of practicality and sustainability.

The up-coming exhibition will host the most intriguing of these products as well as taking a look at design solutions that helped people survive the aftermath of such a catacylsm. The theme of lasting and universal value will be explored throughout and an interactive experience will help entertain visitors and enhance their understanding.

Re:new: Tohuku is an incredibly humbling example of the everyday importance of design and the ways in which it has real-life value. Furthermore, it encourages people to consider the role of the designer and the extreme factors that can affect the design process. Check out all of the exhibition videos here.
