Over the years as household appliances have been upgraded, gained attachments, become more futuristic and more convenient, the lowly oven has had to sit and watch, stuck in the past, largely basic in its function. Until now.

Range OI (oven intelligence) is a sensor that magnetically attaches to your oven and communicates the oven’s activity to the cloud. The retrofit acts as a new brain for your oven or grill, making precision cooking available from anywhere. A combination of software smarts and a probe thermometer, rated up to 450-degrees, track the temperature of your food as you cook it, beaming the results to your phone.

The Range OI offers you notifications when your oven is finished preheating, reminders when you leave the house with your oven on, it can send a "dinner bell" notification to your family and can notify you when temperatures rise or fall past your designated mark. You only have to be there to load and unload.

This is not the first time we’ve seen an interest in cooking remotely. Pjadad/Isberg created a collaborative cooking machine which saw the whole cooking process done via smartphone, however Range IO seems like a slightly more practical option.
