Berlin-based artist Sweza has created a project that brings audio interaction to the world of street art. On walls around Berlin he has pasted up illustrations of boomboxes that have QR codes, letting passers-by to connect with the pieces using their smartphones. The video above shows how pointing your phone to the QRadio links to a virtual music interface that plays a tune, which in this case is ‘Beat Bounce’ by Deniz Khan. Currently there are five of these tapes dotted around Berlin, with more to follow. This audio-visual interactive project is an example of how QR-graffiti projects are increasingly emerging in the world of street art. Similarly, last year’s Musicity curated a project where musicians recorded pieces in response to specific locations. These pieces could only be heard via a special app by visiting the locations. We like the idea of integrating music into city landscapes, and projects like this are demonstrating how people are changing the way they explore their urban environment.
