Pulse Machine is an electromechanical sculpture created by Alicia Eggbert and Alexander Reben which will 'live' for approximately 78 years. It was 'born' in Nashville on June 2nd at 6.18pm with the sculpture programmed to have the average human lifespan of babies born in Tennessee on that same day.

The sculpture involves a kick drum which beats 60 times per minute, with each drum kick representing a heartbeat. A mechanical counter on the wall counts down the number of heartbeats remaining (from 2, 460,438,720) with the sculpture 'dieing' when the counter reaches 0. The sculpture is capable of even tracking time when it is unplugged via an internal, battery operated clock.

It's an interesting project with a rather haunting undertone: check it out here.
