Most days it feels like we spend too long staring at screens, getting headaches from our digital information overload. Well now thanks to Pulse, an 'analogue ticker', we might be able to have a little more digital downtime...

Designed by students Christian Ferrara and Jon McTaggart, Pulse is an analogue device which correlates to your iPhones apps and communicates digital information in a physical format. The device is a piece of cable with 6 points, connected via USB to read data given out by websites, and process the information in real time.

As information comes in, the 6 points move, creating a constantly morphing line graph, communicating digital information as a simple visual representation. As Ferrara explains, 'There is something soothing about the slow gliding of the arms of a clock in comparison to the flashing instantaneous shifting of an LCD display. This is what we were trying to achieve with Pulse. Information that is poetic and sculptural as much as it is informative.”

The device is capable of holding information from multiple apps —  by turning the device 90 degree you can switch from one to the other, from say the weather to Facebook timeline.

Like OKSU and Words of a Middle Man, this in another interesting example of a project that makes analogue the digital world, highlighting our increasing desire for some digital downtime. Check out the video above.
