But what is it about these types of startups that has grabbed everyone so firmly by the tastebuds? Aside from the deliciousness of their dishes, how do these entrepreneurs capture the attention of local food lovers?

In this Protein Forum we’re inviting some of our favourite culinary trailblazers to discuss what it takes to tap into the universal language of food, how to stand out in the rising sea of culinary start-ups. As interest in all things food gains seemingly universal appeal are we facing a backlash against this movement? And if so, how will these food pioneers survive that?

As its founder, Shay Ola has spent years organising and cooking for the dozens of his Rebel Dining Society events that combine the allure or gourmet foods, live music and unusual locations and is currently responsible for some of East London’s best Burritos at his recently opened Death by Burrito space.

Since Petra Barran founded KERB early last year, the kitchen incubator has helped many start up food vendors achieve success. By offering space to new businesses, as well as consultancy and contacts KERB ensure young vendors can get their food into as many mouths as they can.

Hella Crisis are an NYC based design studio that take a particular interest in the visual aspect of food experiences and installations and have taken an art directorial role in visually guiding several street food startups.
