Disruption in Music - 7pm - 8:30pm Jan 26th, Protein Studios

In recent years gloomy forecasts about the uncertain future of the music industry have dominated headlines. The declining profitability of most record labels prompted sceptics to question if the industry could ever recover. After almost saying goodbye to the high-street institution HMV, and undergoing seismic change at the hands of disruptive new digital services, it's clear that the traditional consumption and distribution systems have forever been upended. However with every cloud there is a silver lining and since those troublesome predictions the landscape has critically shifted, creating exciting opportunities for new industry players.
But what does this mean moving forward in 2015? After years in digital limbo, has the music industry has got to grips with its new found identity? Streaming services such as Spotify and Boiler Room are proving that content plus convenience is the way forward, while elsewhere we are witnessing a revival and renewed interest in live music events and a growing demand for tangible formats such as vinyl.
The next Protein Forum aims to investigate these trends and more. On our panel we have:
Matt Williams, curator ICABlaise Bellville, founder Boiler RoomMark Williamson, head of artist services, SpotifyLouis Brown, project manager Island Records
