Think of whiskey tasting session and you might conjure up a group of old gentleman, an open log fire and rich mahogany wood. But that's not always the case, Especially when there's an app for that.

Proof, by creative agency Zeus Jones, is a new iPad app that compliments whiskey tasting sessions. It works by turning the gathering into a sort of game, where people can test how good their taste buds are. Players input their name, as well as the different whiskeys to be tasted, into the app. Then during the tasting, each person uses an interactive chart on the device to record their different thoughts about the taste, whether it be ‘complex’, ‘fruity’ or simply that it ‘put hairs on their chest’. At the end of the sessions, each player is then scored by seeing how close their chart is to the correct tasting map.

The game also features a section where individuals can test their whiskey knowledge. But the main function of the software is to be used in a situation with a group of players. And this is where it’s interesting; most iPad apps aimed at entertaining tend to be for individuals. Proof, however, only really comes to life during a social moment.
