Precious Furniture
Brothers Samuel and Daniel Amoia blur the lines between functionality and pure aestheticism
AMOIA Studio is a New York based multi disciplinary studio founded and eponymously named after two brothers, Dominic and Samuel Amoia. Their signature aesthetic fuses precious stones and rarely seen materials with everyday compounds to create furniture that exists at the intersection of function and artistic sublimity.
The pieces created offer a glimpse at colours and textures seldom seen, such as sodalite, amethyst and Himalayan pink salt, without sacrificing the utilitarian purpose of the structure.
An appreciation for materiality and extensive travel has led the duo to source the rare minerals, gemstones and precious materials from places as far as Mexico, India and the Congo.
The brothers, who are also informed by a love of geometry, 20th Century French Art-Deco and minimalistic design, see the furniture as a means of elevating the everyday, and imbuing common objects with artistic sensibilities.
Every feature of an AMOIA studio furniture piece, from the mould to the final product, is handmade. In this way each object is entirely bespoke. The brothers even wash, crush and handle the stones themselves.
One way of respecting the earth and creating awareness is by using its unconventional materials and introducing them into a broader context by producing contemporary and strikingly beautiful furnishings.
