18 Hewett Street has hit art gold. As part of the Dazed Live festival this Saturday 9th April, New York will come to London in the form of the Kathy Grayson curated art exhibition POSTERMAT. Our warehouse space is going to be filled up with works by artists including Yoko Ono, Barry McGee, Bruce LaBruce, Harmony Korine, Aurel Schmidt and Assume Vivid Focus. Needless to say, we’re pretty psyched about it. If you don’t know much about the show, here’s a little recap. Initially set up in the 104 Green Street space, the POSTERMAT show featured limited edition posters from artists both infamous and new to the scene - all curated by The Hole, Kathy Grayson’s art outfit with Meghan Coleman. The two former directors at the legendary and now-closed Deitch Projects got the idea for POSTERMAT from A-Ron Bondaroff, who frequented Postermat (a shop on E 8th St in the Village where kids in the 80s/90s got the best punk, indie, whatever-cool posters) and enlisted his help to get the right feel for the show. Aside from the posters showcase, there will also be films shown on rotation; Boredoms: 77 Boa Drum, Action! International Film Club, and Captured will be screened in the side room. All three are great, we're particularly excited to watch the behind-the-scenes documentary 77 Boa Drum, where you see the seminal Japanese band Boredoms play an unbelievable gig with 77 drummers on 07.07.07, at 7:07pm in Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn... Sounds awesome right? Make sure you grab yourself a ticket here which will give you access to loads of other amazing events going on as part of the Dazed Live festival. The line-up reads like your dream come true: Gang Gang Dance, Aaron Koblin, Ruth Ogben, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Austra, Champagne Valentine, Actress, Factory Floor ...and many many more. If you can't make it down, the POSTERMAT show is on till the 23rd so you've got a bit of time to check it out.
