With always-on internet ingraining itself to almost-omnipresent status over the last decade, the way we engage with what we watch, in particular the humble TV, has shifted at a rapid pace.

Many of us will be familiar with Netflix's original shows that are now available for viewing all in one sitting, while the growing use of technologies like smartphones, tablets and Apple TV are moving the presence of websites such as YouTube away from the laptop screen - and quickly making the old notions of the TV schedule almost redundant. Now, a new website and app, Pluto.TV, hopes to make sense of this explosive rise in online content, distilling the dross and offering viewers the viral videos, comedy shows and any other relevant material they have become accustomed to.

Somewhat amusingly, the LA-based company has made its platform resemble a traditional TV listing format - letting users browse through organised channel categories like music, news, sports and more.

Freshly launched and for free on iOS and Android, Pluto.TV features 85 free channels including some familiar faces like Funny or Die, QVC and YouTube. In addition, there are specialised channels like "Pwned FPS", which streams gaming clips, and social add-ons that enable users to easily discuss their favourite shows on Facebook.
