miCoach, Nike Golf 360, the MotivePro suit...there's no shortage of quantified self technology which allow users to monitor their performance and improve their game. The latest in the long list of such technology is Play & Connect from French brand Babolat, a high tech racquet designed for tennis players.

The unique racquet, available in 2013, has integrated sensors that can detect service speed, the power of a hit, and ball spin in real time. Sensors in the handle monitor what type of stroke was played (forehand, backhand, serve) and even the position of the ball on impact, all useful information in determining game statistics. The data can be accessed via an app which allows users to view and organize the data, share it on social media sites, set performance goals or compare stats with other users.

The device would be useful for pros and amateurs alike, bringing a new experience to the game and allowing for better performance analysis. It's interesting to see the quantified self movement moving beyond running into other sports. Check out the video to see the racquet in action.
