Next month, Phillips and Tumblr will be holding Paddles On, the world’s very first auction for digital art.  For the lead up to the event, artists from across the web are invited to submit animated GIFs, websites, software, net art and videos and the final collection was selected by curator Lindsay Howard.
Support for the event comes from artstech, Paddle8 and OKFocus with all proceeds going to benefit Rhizome.
While debates about appropriation and copyright rage on across the media landscape, it will be interesting to gauge the art world’s desire for ownership over work in such an intangible medium. And in a happy coincidence, the first inaugural International Teletext Art Festival is also being held this month in Germany. Digital art is definitely on the rise.
