Created by artist Julian Oliver, No Network is a is 1.25 scale model of the British Chieftain tank, equipped with the ability to block any network signal from up to fifteen feet away. Instead of voluntarily sacrificing connectivity, such as Blokket or the Recess app, No Network takes it by force, waging war on buzzing texts and bleeping SMS messages by jamming network signals with the flip of a switch.

No Network is intended to illustrate how contemporary conflicts may soon be ‘cyber wars,’ waged through digital attacks that target the internet and phone signals instead of physical locations. Visitors at the exhibition can sample a disconnected world for a brief time, while considering the startling potential of an unplugged society. This is the the first of a three part tank series, the next two devices set to disable Wi-Fi and GPS signals respectively, forming a hacking trinity of digital isolation.
