The internet is becoming an increasingly popular realm for artists to experiment in. Our Forum looking at digital art a few months ago talked about the possibilities available to artists working in this space. Now the Xpo gallery in Paris is taking the novel approach of presenting an internet art exhibition that doesn't feature any physical pieces. Instead submissions by the twelve artists can be found within their individual wifi routers that aren’t connected to the internet itself but rather running on their own small network.
To see the artworks on ‘display’ at new2, viewers must connect to each artwork’s network via their smartphones or other wifi enabled devices. Featuring work by a wide range of digital artists, including Cory Arcangel, JODI and Evan Roth, the exhibition is an interesting example of a typically non-physical medium finding a way of existing in a physical way.
