An interactive illustration exhibition called Nation Of Shopkeepers opens today in South London’s Peckham Space gallery. The show by local design collective Garudio Studiage invites the public to create its own fantasy shops along Peckham’s Rye Lane. The gallery walls are covered in large, detailed line drawings of every single building along Rye Lane. Apart from the intricate outlines of the building structures, everything is left blank, allowing visitors to customise the stripped down shops. With over 200 buildings digitally drawn across the gallery, this ever-changing exhibition has the potential to create interesting results based entirely on audience participation. Garudio Studiage uncovers the striking architecture hidden under the hustle and bustle of the local area’s busy high street and gives visitors the opportunity to create their own imaginary environments. Since its recent inauguration, Peckham Space has been dedicated to commissioning artwork made by community groups, with projects like this encouraging involvement from the local area.
