Marina Abramović's work looks at the intersection where technology and spirituality meet. For her latest project she collaborated with Suzanna Dikker and Matthias Oostrik on an artistic neuroscience experiment.

The Mutual Wave Machine installation takes Abromovic's previous The Artist is Present performance, where members of the public took turns to sit opposite the artist, who gazed into their eyes expressionless, one step further. The new piece investigates brainwave synchronisation between two people sitting opposite each other in real time, using software that analyses brain activity.

The greater synchronisation between two people is reflected in displayed bright audiovisual patterns, whereas lack of synchronisation is  much darker. The installation will run as a part of the TodaysArt festival in The Hague, Netherlands, from 27th and 28th September.
