Brooklyn-based artist Swoon has designed a concept for a building in New Orleans that can function as a musical instrument. The Dithyrambalina building will look like a fantastical house, but act as a public sculpture where visitors can play music simply by touching its walls and floors. The musical house will be built using materials from the remains of a decrepit Creole cottage, and its walls will contain interactive instruments. Once it's built, people from the community will be invited to watch local musicians play orchestrated musical pieces using the building. For this ambitious musical architectural installation, Swoon is working alongside mechanical engineers, architects, salvage suppliers and sound engineers to bring a creative platform to the New Orleans Bywater neighbourhood. We recently featured Nike’s pool renovation in London's Dagenham district - another project that puts the community at its heart. We look forward to seeing more artists embark on projects that support and connect with local communities.
