Next month Japanese brand Muji will be holding an exhibition at the Design Museum in London. Running from the 9th until the 18th, the exhibition, entitledProduct Fitness 80, will showcase archived products, prototypes and itemsnot for sale in Europe, focusing on the craftsmanship of the brand and itsminimalistic aesthetic.

The exhibition marks the anniversary of theJapanese tsunami and demonstrates the brand’s reaction to the disaster -asking us to reflect upon excess energy and resources used in product designand consider what would happen if we reduced this by 20%. Muji encouragesus to contemplate our materialistic lives and how we can take a leanerapproach to consumption and design, appreciating instead the simplicity andfunctionality of its products.

Tickets have already sold out for the launch evening on the 8th, duringwhich Naoto Fukasawa, Konstantin Grcic and Sam Hecht will bediscussing craftsmanship, quality and efficiency of materials and energy. Butentry to the exhibition is free if you have a Muji receipt.
