Muji’s first ever store, opened in Tokyo’s Aoyama district in 1983, has recently been re-opened as a concept store called Found Muji. Rather than just selling its usual assortment of home goods and clothing, the new store focuses on what the brand calls ‘exploration and discovery’, and sells items from around the world that have inspired its functional and simple designs.

Items in stock include Celadon pottery from Thailand, metal curry bowls from India and feather dusters from Germany – the sort of products that the research team at the brand have been gathering over the years for inspiration, but have never previously been sold commercially.

As we wrote about recently in our article on the forthcoming Muji Product Fitness exhibition at the Design Museum, London, Muji proves itself to be much more than just a lifestyle retailer. It’s a brand that truly values the skill, thought and craftsmanship behind each and every product it creates. Found Muji invites customers to embark on a journey of discovery, learn the history of the brand and join it in appreciation of exceptional design.
