A new gadget that aids productivity at the touch of a button

Meet MOTI, the mini gadget designed to motivate. Invented by 25-year-old designer and engineer Kayla Matheus, the desk-mounted computer ensures that its owners complete their goals at the press of a button. With inbuilt lights, sounds and vibrations, MOTI acts as an alarm reminder to help individuals reach their goals.  The premise is simple; you set a task, MOTI will light up and remind you until you've done it, at which point the light changes and you're left in peace.

Going beyond wearables and mobile apps, MOTI was designed to surpass mobile technology. Studies have proven that people engage more with physical entities than there digital counterparts when it comes to progress tracking. While the brand have provided an app, it combines both digital and physical elements to accommodate a wider audience. “MOTI goes deeper than data by understanding how humans emotionally connect to technology and what system of interactions, frequencies, and reminders elicits impact,” explain the MOTI team.  Using a variety of interactive rewards, the device acts predictably and unpredictably to maintain the users attention.

As we've seen in our Motivation Stations observation, people are more frequently turning to digital solutions as a means to prevent procrastination and achieve their goals. Websites such as Go Fucking Do It, set up by developer Pieter Levels, helps people to reach their personal goals using a monetary incentive, in the event that old fashioned will power isn't enough.
