A kids boutique for women who happen to be mums
“Since launching Motherland in August last year, one of the most exciting things has been meeting people doing and making brilliant things,” says Charlotte Philby, Founder and Editor of Motherland. “It was a natural progression to launch a store, combining our interest in culture, pretty things and smart ideas.”
Visitors will be able to purchase a series of exclusive products made in collaboration with Motherland; from upcycled Duvet Days trousers for kids, crafted from original 80’s bed-sets, by designer Emma White, to a soft lambswool mini blanket by Donna Wilson, who was previously awarded Designer of the Year at Elle Decoration’s British Design Awards.
The Protein published magazine has a unique window into the world of children and parenting. Philby was formerly a columnist at The Independant, writing about shopping for mums, while Motherland’s Creative Director Barney Beech is a graphic designer with an interest in product design.
The result is a playful, individual and well-produced destination that reflects Motherland's irreverent editorial. “It was also important that all our products were made ethically, on a small scale, and created from the best British materials wherever possible,” adds Philby.
Readers who’d like to sample products from the Motherland Store, enjoy a Frame yoga class, or hear Riposte magazine's Danielle Pender speak about running an independent business can also enjoy the Motherland Xmas Fair at Protein Studio 2 on 21 November. Happy birthday Motherland!
