New restaurants and food-outlets are popping up daily, wanting to feed our seemingly insatiable interest in food. One way to stand out in the crowd is to add something to the dining experience. We recently reported on Ultraviolet, a multi-sensory restaurant venture in China with curated sounds, visuals and scents.

Due to open this summer at Eyebeam in New York is Monkey Town 3; another restaurant concept that puts experience at its centre. Guests will be able to dine in an intimate cube-like cinema setting that will show mash-up projections by video artists with surround sound, creating an immersive, visual culinary experience. The project revives one of New York’s first underground restaurants; the popular art-hotspot Monkey Town, which lived for 7 years before closing in 2010. The space will be open from June 13th to August 11th with two screenings/ sittings every night, promising food from 4 of the city’s top chefs and work by 21 artists.
