Based in Melbourne, Australia and designed by French born, Melbourne based architect, Anne-Sophie Poirier (aka Sasufi), Missy Lui prides itself on being a toxic free and environmentally friendly nail salon. Something that may seem shocking and almost impossible to believe to anyone who regularly visits any normal nail salon, where you see the same brands, same furniture and even experience the same heavy fumes.

In an attempt to buck the trend of environmentally damaging salons, Missy Lui is founded on the belief that only toxic free, cruelty free, vegan and environmentally friendly products could be used in her salon. Products that we normally use from the popular nail brands contain toxins such as formaldehyde resin which not only damage the environment but can also be damaging to us.

The space itself also reflects the ideals, and by using a minimal palette, bamboo floors and pebble tiles an organic, natural feel has been created. The various elements in store have also been designed considerately; they can be removed easily, therefore optimising costs and maximising the lifetime of the materials. All this supports the growing concerns surrounding environmentally damaging business practices. Sharing their environmental consciousness, we recently looked at Silo, a new London restaurant with a zero-waste policy.
