Internationally renowned design duo Scholten & Baijings have re-imagined the MINI car as part of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Their installation, COLOUR ONE, explores the design of MINI's classic model, the MINI One, by deconstructing it and dissecting the design process.

Each layer of the instantly recognizable car's design has been individually removed and separately considered, 'extracting the essence of each component' in the process. They have added an injection of colour and texture to some so that each element (a steering wheel, a seatbelt) looks like a completely alien invention.  The doors, for example, have been taken out and displayed separately from the car with, say, a  three-dimensional golden textures or a matt porcelain paint finish.

The exhibits (laid out in a stylized race paddock as a nod to MINI's racing heritage) are joined by showcases containing colour and material samples along with inspiring objects, images and snapshots from the creative process behind the installation.

The installation is a thought-provoking and inspiring look into the classic design, shedding new light on the craft process. Check out the pictures below.
