MIDI Jacket
Fashion meets technology with this jacket that doubles as a hackable musical instrument.
Wearable technology seems to be popping up all over the place recently. From these practical, data sourcing patches to Lucy McRae’s more conceptual, art based utilisation, technology and clothes seem to be becoming more closely aligned. This latest project from international tech-fashion hacktivist group MACHINA aims to combine clothes and technology in a way that should appeal to budding music producers/dancers.
The jacket is equipped with a variety of sensors. Some detect movement, others act more like simple piano keys. The intention is to create a piece of open source hardware that is open to ‘hacking’ and modifying for each user’s individual needs. The accompanying tablet software means that the functionality of the jacket can be extended beyond music producing.
The project has just launched on Kickstarter and if this sounds like your cup of tea you can chip in here.
