Global fast-food chain McDonald’s shows its eco-friendly side with the unveiling of a set of re-usable coffee cups. Patrick Norguet, the French industrial designer who previously worked with the hamburger giant to modernise European franchises, was commissioned for this project to create the collection of stylish ceramic cups for McDonald’s France.

The drinkware comes in six different colours bearing minimal branding and subtle design, contrary to the aesthetic normally associated with the restaurant. McDonald’s France aims to give away 5 million free cups in a move to encourage customers to use them in place of the brand’s disposable styrofoam cups, as well as an incentive to try their new McCafe products.

It is evident that the company is responding to a demand to reduce waste, and depending on the success of this promotion we may expect similar sustainable alternatives emerging in other branches of McDonald’s.
