Grabbing a brew is a great social activity for you and your mates, but what if you could use social media to create your very own beer? #MashTag is a new beer from British beer company, BrewDog, that was not only inspired by Twitter but made by Twitter. According to BrewDog spokeswoman Sarah Warman, from style, malt, alcohol percentage, types of hops, the “special twist,” and even the label design and name, “every single element of the beer was decided by the public.”

Fans of the brewery took to Twitter, Facebook, and the company’s blog to vote on the new brew. Nearly 5,000 fans chimed in. The result? A 7.5% American Brown Ale made with New Zealand hops and aged on hazelnuts and oak chips. The name #Mashtag is taken from the Twitter #hashtag used during the voting process. BrewDog’s mission is to make other people as passionate about craft beer as they are. By giving the public an opportunity to participate with the products they enjoy, fans become more than just consumers but investors as well. Rumor has it, it tastes pretty good too.
