Inspired by famous lengthy works – such as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bed-In (168 hours), or Christian Marclay's The Clock (24 hours) – as well as by her experience at MoMa, world-renowned artist Marina Abramovic has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the creation of MAI (Marina Abramovic Institute), a centre dedicated to long durational art.

The artist imagined the institute as an interdisciplinary space that explores the links between art, science, technology, and spirituality, and also trains the public to experience long durational projects. The visitors will be required to leave all their worldly belongings behind, to wear lab coats and noise cancelling headphones, and to commit to spending at least six hours in the centre. Occupying a former theatre near Hudson River, New York, the building designed by OMA architects will include, beside a live performance space, a meditation room and a crystal cave where visitors would feel the energetic effects of stones.

Abramovic hopes to raise $600,000 through the crowdfunding platform, money that will go toward the renovation of the building totaling $20 million. You can show your support by making a pledge here.
