A new art project called Make Skateboards is celebrating skateboard design with a group exhibition and pop-up skate shop at the I-20 Gallery in New York.

The project, which is situated near to the famous Pier 62 skate park, has commissioned 45 designers to create artwork for the temporary concept space.

The store sells both affordable boards and limited edition silk screen printed boards, as well as a selection of clothes and accessories designed by up-and-coming New York designers.

We've seen other exhibitions recently that focus on skateboarding, such as the Public Domaine at the La Gaite Lyrique in Paris. Make Skateboards has taken a more nostalgic approach, aiming to recreate the atmosphere of an old skateboard shop. We like the idea, and think the project promises to bring a breath of fresh air into New York’s summer season.
