The use of gravity and manetism in the creative community seems to have caught on recently. We've seen Magnetic Dresses from Iris Van Herpen and Jólan van der Wiel's Gravity Stools, and now Kouichi Okamoto from, Japanese studio Kyouei Design has created a contraption that beautifully records and displays the Earth's magnetic fields.

The Magnetic Field Record is consists of a bottle of Chinese ink on one side, and a large magnet on the other. The device rotates, the liquid drips out, and, as it shifts its weight balance, artful splashes and patterns are created. Depending on the magnetic forces being placed upon it, the bottle can move towards or away from the centre, increasing or decreasing the size and intensity of the pattern.

We've seen other art projects that try to make sense of geographical and physical factors in unconventional manners, such as The Sound of the Earth, and the Magnetic Field Record is another example of designers re-imagining ways to display information.
