There’s not much that hasn’t already been said about the resurgence of quality print publications. For the majority of aspiring magazines, journals and the like, one or two issues a year is plenty. This allows time for bespoke issue-to-issue planning, and a sufficient attention to detail.

Speed and quality of journalism often achieve a negative correlation, and so in the case of Lodestars Anthology, it would seem six months is ample time to get right to the heart the matter.

Liz Schaffer started Lodestars as a photojournalism website, documenting her travels from the Dolomites to Dubrovnik, Patagonia to Provence, looking at plenty of flowers along the way. Schaffer has now created the Lodestars Anthology, a beautiful biannual magazine-meets-journal about place, travel and exploration.

The first issue is dedicated to ol' Blighty and the oft-overlooked places and traditions that make England so special. Featuring the full English breakfast, the Lake District and the good old British Boozer, a carefully curated roster of writers and photographers depict England’s idiosyncrasies with an appreciation that few magazines can boast.

Spanish magazine Cookbook takes slow journalism to the next level, offering but one edition per year. For Cookbook #2, one of Spain's most prolific graphic designers and founder of Apartamento magazine, Albert Folch curates the entire edition to his tastes.
