London-based design and innovation studio BERG has developed Little Printer, a new product that will be available to buy next year. The palm-sized device scours social networking sites and web content, compiling a selection of information and headlines relevant to the user and printing them out on receipt-like rolls of paper, almost like a mini newspaper. Users configure the printer from their smartphone via an app, selecting content they are interested in viewing – news, photos, horoscopes, weather, messages from friends etc. They then touch a button to receive their personalised publications as many times as they want in a day.

The product is just the first in a series of wireless devices called Berg Cloud that will be available to buy. Each will be able to plug into a person's home router and create a system of wireless devices that can communicate with each other. 'We think of Berg Cloud as the nervous system for connected products,' says Berg's CEO, Matt Webb.

First there was Flip-book and now this – both take all the online content we are bombarded with on a daily basis, cutting through meaningless information to bring users a curated selection of updates, in this case, physically. And that’s the interesting bit about this product – it’s another great example of post-digitalism and the merging of offline and online channels. We rely increasingly on digital content yet still crave the physical and tangible. Little Printer is the first interface of its kind and we look forward to its arrival.
