Seeking to provide a short comic that is readable for the blind, Philipp Meyer developed Life, the very first tactile comic. Life explores birth, death, love and separation using three circles embossed on paper. With its simple and clear design, it can be equally enjoyed by both those with sight and those without.

To create the book, Meyer worked with a braille proofreader from Denmark-based learning organization, Nota. Every page has four frames. In each, a situation is depicted. By altering the placement of the circles and the height of the embossment, the basic geometric shapes transform into the story of a couple and their child. The concise design graphically simplifies the story without losing any of its meaning.

Life is not only visually compelling in its precise minimalism, but it creates a new medium of  storytelling that can be successful told without ink, text or sound.
