For our next Forum, taking place on Monday 15th of September, Protein are joining forces with the London Design Festival and, as part of their Global Design Forum, we’re holding a panel discussion exploring the new openness of trade industries.

Hidden amongst the flashy launches of 'revolutionary' new smartphones, tablets and other shiny stuff, a far greater revolution is brewing - the maker revolution. Dubbed the ‘Third Industrial Revolution’: the high-tech DIY culture of the maker movement has expanded from the realms of tinkerers, geeks and gearheads to the world of product designers, artists and pioneers. From the rise of digital technologies such as 3D printing and rapid prototyping, to the collaborative maker spaces and open-source manifestos that encourage sharing and innovation, the Modern Makers forum will explore this emerging Do-It-Together spirit and the future of making.

To delve deeper into this emerging trend, we’ve invited a panel of experts, all with different backgrounds in the maker industry, to discuss these developments, why they’re happening and where they’re going.

Speaking this time we have:
Daniel Charny, creative director of From Now On, curator and design educator From Now On. His exhibition “Power of Making” for the V&A and Crafts Council was their most visited free exhibition since 1950.

Paul Smyth, cofounder of Makerversity, a space for manufacturing start-ups. They provide equipment, materials and guidance to help people develop their skills and business ventures.

Ben Alun-Jones is the co-founder of Knyttan, a factory space where people can design, submit and create their own clothing on a series of hi-tech industrial knitting machines.

And moderating all this we have Duncan Riches of and Associate.

Tickets are £20 and available here.
