Lasers can be creatively used to visually enhance parties and stage settings, but a new generation of artists are starting to explore their artistic applications. United Visual Artists and Marshmallow Laser Feast, in collaboration with CIANT (International Centre for Art and New Technologies), an international platform for research, production and communication of technology-based artwork, are the latest to jump on this bandwagon.

CIANT’s most recent work, Laser Bamboo Forest, consists in an interactive installation that uses laser light and sound to transform a dark room into a glittering woodland. By touching the rays, visitors can engage with the artwork and generate melodic loops, rhythmic patterns, or street sounds. As more people join in, it becomes more difficult to create a harmonious symphony.

Laser Bamboo Forest was developed for Designblok 2014, Prague’s design and fashion week, but it would be cool to see this installation on an international tour.
