A new magazine has landed on our doorsteps in the form of Kindling Quarterly, and no, it's not another food or travel magazine. Kindling is a new, Brooklyn-based magazine for men interested in creativity, community, and parenting. Its publishers, David Michael Perez and P. August Heffner, are both new fathers, creatives, and first time publishers. It explores fatherhood through essays, interviews, art and photography by depicting men who are active caregivers as completely normal rather than a novelty.

In their launch issue they link the rise of actively caring fathers to the economic collapse and a general shift in gender dynamics where, as opposed to older men, these ‘new’ fathers don’t see parenting as a detour in their career.

While the magazine might appear quite niche,  its a well-written exploration into the cultural and social changes on fatherhood and how creative individuals give this role as much importance as their careers, if not more. Kindling Quarterly launches mid January, so until then check out the video above for more information.
