Canadian creative Kid Koala boasts many skills. A successful musician, DJ and excellent turntablist, he has worked with artists such as the Gorillaz and is signed to UK based label Ninja Tune. Away from the pure music eccentricities - he has been known to wear a koala costume as he performs and has sampled eveything from Peanuts television show specials to people sneezing - Kid Koala is also an exceptional graphic novelist. Following on from his last book, released back in 2003, he has produced a truly masterful new novel entitled Space Cadet.

The 132 page artifact is poignant tale of loss, love and robotic companionship. The novel, drawn entirely on etch board, is both beautifully illustrated and powerfully communicated with the aide of an accompanied soundtrack, the ‘Still Picture Score’. The soundtrack, composed entirely by Kid Koala himself, is to be listened to as the book is read, mirroring the emotive dynamic of the storyline.

Not content with just an incredible novel and soundtrack, Kid Koala has also developed a live and physical element to the release of the novel. Taking up a residency at the Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art, he has produced the Space Cadet Headphone Concert and Gallery, which consisted of live creation of visual content and a pop up planetarium.

The book is being launched at London’s Red Gallery EC2 on the 13th of September, at the Music To Draw To event and will be released by Ninja Tune on the 19th of September, priced at £18.
