On Friday, January 25th, Protein and Ketel One Vodka partnered to celebrate the start of The Modern Craft Project. The event took place at the Projective Space in downtown New York City and featured six artisans who combine expert technique with modern sensibility to create beautiful, functional products.

Each craftsperson who attendanded has dedicated their professional life to mastering a time-honored discipline.

Morris Kitchen was founded in 2009 by brother and sister Tyler and Kari Morris. The duo specialize in concocting organic, ready-to-use syrups—including Ginger, Rhubarb, and Preserved Lemon—that mix well with everything from hard drinks to ice cream. Morris Kitchen even shared a few bottles of their signature syrups with Jeff Bell of PDT, the evening's mixologist, who used them to make delicious custom cocktails.

Former carpenter Aaron Ruff was in attendance showcasing a collection of jewelry from his Brooklyn-based company Digby & Iona. Aaron's masterfully crafted yet playful pieces are inspired by history, literature, nature and the tools of his trade.

Terrapin Stationers displayed a line of paper goods that deftly blend old-school charm (a print of a bass) with modern irreverence ("FUCK OFF" stationary), as well as the tools of the trade. The century-old family-run company is currently helmed by Kathy Harrington and son Ted.

Paul Cunningham's table was covered in a variety of handsome American footballs. With Old World craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, Paul's company, Leather Head Sports, has carved out a niche in distinctive, finely crafted American goods.

And last but certainly not least is Corbin Clay, owner of the Azure Furniture Company. Corbin was on hand to show off the affordable heirloom-quality furniture he crafts from Rocky Mountain pine trees killed by beetles.

We want to extend a big thank you to all of the craftsmen and women who put their incredible talents on display. We would also like to thank Ketel One Vodka for helping to make the Modern Craft Workshop happen.
