Heart-felt film champions pioneers' chilling work
“The story I’m telling you now is the story of our planet Earth,” says Claude Lorius, a glaciology scientist and hero of Ice & Sky, a new film produced in collaboration with luxury group Kering and directed by Luc Jacquet, of March of the Penguins fame.
The French holding company known for high-end fashion labels, like Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney, co-produced the movie to effectively demonstrate their affinity with environmental campaigners, and highlight their own sustainable practices. “A pillar of today’s culture, cinema is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together and bring their attention to global issues,” says François-Henri Pinault, CEO and chairman of Kering. Earlier this year the group also launched its Women in Motion initiative at Cannes Film Festival in a bid to empower female talent in cinema.
With greater environmental awareness – our Slow Report showed 90% of people are concerned with the state of the environment – as well as the rise of a new wave of digitally-connected feminists, Kering are tapping into a highly-active and influential audience, ready to shout about its campaign. Plus, it’s all for a good cause.Still hungry for more? Sign up for our weekly supplement featuring the latest news, profiles, features and innovation
