Jetpac is a new app that offers a particularly human approach to city guides by compiling information gathered from public Instagram photos. Using image analysing algorithms, the app is able to recognise certain specifications within a photo - what people are wearing, whether they’re happy, what they’re doing, where they are, etc. - and make suggestions based on those specs, making it easy for users to see where people like them hang out. Essentially, it's an Instagram-sourced travel guide.

This new system of presenting hang-out spots via sourced images allows users to immediately get a feel for a place based on others’ experiences. True to the nature of social apps, users can raise the reputation of a location by uploading a picture of their own experiences, in doing so, up-voting the place. Lumped into categories like ‘Happiest places in town’ and ‘Hipster hangouts’, users can very easily browse through lists of places that are relevant to them, with each image also linked to further information about the location for closer inspection.

The app is currently available as a free download from the App Store. In the meantime, check out Jetpac’s slightly cringe-worthy (but informative) introduction video above.
