Amazon's proposed Pay-By-Selfie technology would eradicate the need for worded passwords, fingerprint authentication and iris recognition.

Thinking up secure passwords that are both easy to remember and hard for others to guess is the bane of an online existence. As a result, many of us re-use one password for everything which increases our susceptibility to hacking.

Soon enough, the act of taking a selfie might be all we need to make a purchase on Amazon. The commerce conglomerate applied for a patent for a piece of technology simply called "Pay-By-Selfie" in October 2015, but news of the request has only surfaced recently.

Though Pay-By-Selfie appears to be built on the fundamentals of facial recognition, it actually goes beyond this, as that technology can be circumnavigated by simply holding up a picture of the accounts owner. Instead, two selfies are required, one of which may be a video, as the camera will prompt the user to smile, blink or tilt their head.
