Last night saw the launch of Iluzjon, an exhibition that showcases the very best of Polish film and theatre posters from the 1960s and 1970s, collected by Eye Sea Posters. Created by some of the nations most revered artists, these posters were commissioned by state controlled film and theatre institutions during the communist era in Poland in order to create alternative imagery to the foreign originals they deemed inappropriate.

Acclaimed for their distinctive graphic style, the hand framed posters looked beautiful and striking in the space and the launch saw over 300 people come to admire them. The kind folks at Davna meant we spent the evening enjoying arguably Poland’s most notable export, vodka.  They provided drinks crafted using Bizon grass and cherry vodka.

To celebrate the exhibition, Scot Bendall of design studio La Boca, has created an exclusive exhibition poster that has been translated into a 3 colour screen print. Limited to 100 copies, these prints alongside the highly collectable and increasingly sought after original Polish posters, will be on display and available to buy at the gallery until October 29th.
