Ideapod is a new productive social media platform that cultivates and expands on user’s ideas; a social media hybrid, picking attributes from existing social media channels in order to create an entirely different proposition.

Unlike Kickstarter, Ideapod is not seeking financial backing for new ideas, rather community discussion and peer involvement to develop ideas and bring them closer to realization. Like Twitter, there is a character cap; users must pitch their idea in 1000 characters forcing them to communicate the substance of an idea without rambling. User replies are also confined to 1000 characters. When the mobile version of Ideapod is released, it will look and operate similarly to Instagram but with the option for users to share their ideas in a 40 second video, making for a social media amalgamation for open sourcing good ideas.

Ideapod is still in the Beta testing phase and seeking funding to develop a mobile app on Indigogo. Hopefully it shouldn’t take long; since February the Beta site has hosted 70,000 users.

Thumbing through certain social media channels can often feel banal, but the idea of browsing and contributing to good ideas seems a worthwhile way to kill time.
