Hyperlocal Market
An online initiative that opens up the food chain and connects urban producers with local customers.
Royal College of Art graduate Kayleigh Thompson is the brainchild behind the Hyperlocal Market – an online initiative that encourages local food commerce in London by connecting urban growers with local retailers and consumers.
Sellers simply become a member of the web-based market and upload the products they want to sell to their neighbours. Buyers can download the accompanying app, which enables them to type in their postcode and browse the food being grown in their area. Customers can select a product and collect it directly from the producer.
As we've seen both in cookbooks and other local ingredient focussed initiatives, consumers are becoming increasingly concerned with the provenance of their food in today’s distrustful world. Digital social tools like Hyperlocal Market open up the food chain, making it easier for producers and consumers to communicate.
Thompson is currently looking for participants to sign up and become members of the community.
