The smart Bike Bell and app from Budapest based startup Shoka could add further safety and security to lives of cyclists.

For everything that London is known for, safety for cyclists is certainly not one of them. Even the most careful cyclist will encounter situations where either their safety or the security of their bike is compromised.

The Shoka app and accompanying smart bike bell provide what could be the most comprehensive solution yet.

Firstly the smart bike bell rings at 95 decibels, which is twice as loud as your average bike bell. In addition, the bell offers three weeks of battery life, has an in-built mic, light sensor and accelerometer.

Shoka itself works similarly to apps like Nike+, Runkeeper and Strava, in so much as it allows users to track their individual progress, identify new and existing routes and examine how friends are faring and where they are. However, Shoka also has the ability to send a push notification if it senses that the bicycle is being moved.

Shoka promises that the bell and app will combine to change the way we bike forever. While that remains to be seen at this stage, the features combine to create a product that will satisfy the needs of even the most avid of cyclist.

Shoka is yet to reach mass market, but those interested can sign up for early bird updates via their website.
