What would you do if you won $100,000? Hans-Peter Feldmann, the contemporary German conceptualist artist, decided to pin his $100K to the walls of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.   Feldmann won the amount administered by the Guggenheim museum when he was awarded the 2010 Hugo Boss Prize for his contribution to contemporary art. His work is characterised by, and celebrated for, collating mass amounts of objects to decode meanings found in the spaces around him. Winners are encouraged to use the money to fund further projects, so, Feldman marked the accolade by putting his prize through the very same process. Instead of using new notes, the artist specifically went for used bills and has painstakingly layered each one on top of the other, across a series of the museums walls, to highlight the individuality and multiplicity within an accepted and apparent whole. The results are an overwhelming array of textured green tiles that are due to remain on display until November 2, 2011, when Feldman will be wisely cashing in the amount.   His technique is an interesting example of contemporary art’s readership and starkly relevant to an era characterised by austerity and ‘Big Society’.  In addition to being a pretty brave way of using $100,000.
