Nike has teamed up with AKQA, a digital design company, to create the ‘House of Mamba’ LED basketball court. Named after Los Angeles Lakers’ legendary shooting guard Kobe (Black Mamba) Bryant, the court utilises motion-tracking and reactive LED visualisation to quickly and seamlessly transform into various training scenarios. With its program and reactive capacities the drills can be switched instantly and there are no limitations to what content can be displayed on the smart playing surface.

The Shanghai court was in demonstration mode while the Nike 2014 RISE basketball campaign came to greater China (the first live basketball reality show). Bryant and LeBron James mentored 30 young basketball hopefuls from 27 different cities before whittling them down to a final three who will play in the Nike World Basketball festival in Barcelona next week.

Not only is the campaign a high profile way to demonstrate Nike’s ability to innovate within the technological sphere but it also goes a long way to solidifying Nike’s position at the top of China’s most popular sport.
