Nightswapping is an app created for travellers, by travellers, that allows you to stay in the homes of others for free. All you need to do is extend the same courtesy.

The sharing economy has grown rapidly in popularity.  A niche concept up until a few years ago is now an industry worth billions. Whether you want to share a room, a car seat or even household duties, there are now innumerable services that can help facilitate the sharing.

Nightswapping is an app that takes this concept and allows it to exist in the context of holidaying. Rather than paying for accommodation, as you would for an Airbnb or a hotel, capital is accrued by allowing people to stay in your spare room, or entire home. You can then use this credit to stay in someone else’s home.

The app allows for three common scenarios: the guests stay in spare rooms with the hosts at home, the guests stay at the house while the owner is away and, lastly, a home swap.. There are currently 150,000 registered Nightswappers situated in some of Europe’s major cities, including Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Rome and Paris.

Nightswapping is going to shake tourism as we know it. It is now possible to have a travel experience that is altogether free, secure, comfortable, authentic, friendly and flexible - Serge Duriavig, Founder of Nightswapping

Nightswapping successfully removes money from the equation almost entirely, which has the happy by-product of reintroducing a genuine trustful connection between host and guest.

You can discover more about the changing attitudes to the sharing economy in our upcoming Currency Report, which includes qualitative and quantitative research and case studies, as well as expert analysis.
